Quantum Releasing was founded as Quantum Entertainment in 1996 and as a foreign sales agency and global distributor of independent films and television program.  Company CEO and head of Acquisitions Michael D. Sellers is a multi-award winning independent film producer and director of acclaimed films that include Eye of the Dolphin, Vlad, Goodbye America, and the soon-to-be-released Beneath the Blue.

“By 1996 when we started Quantum I had produced three or four movies  and wasn’t happy with what was happening to them when we turned them over to distributors,” recalled Sellers.  I felt that we would be much better off handling distribution ourselves, even if we were new and untested, rather than relying on the existing independent distribution options that were out there.  I think that turned out to be a good decision.”

Thirteen years later, Quantum has evolved into a company handling more than 60 films from 30 different producers.  ”I like to think that because I’m a filmmaker myself, we are more filmmaker friendly than most distributors.  We totally “get” the perspective of the producer and his investors and we try to be a solid partner in a market that is not always (or ever) predictable,”  noted Sellers.

Chief Operating Officer and Head of Distribution David Suarez brings youthful energy and an international flavor to the company. Suarez is fluent in several different languages and in a short but intense years in the distribution/production business has clearly made his mark in the industry. “There is just no substitute for hard, grind-it-out work in the business today. We maintain constant phone contact with buyers in 200 territories and all time zones — which means we’re pretty close to a 24/7 operation with shifts starting at 3am and continuing until after midnight. We make sure that all our partners are constantly updated not only by emails and internet, but by phone calls and of course having meetings with them constantly in main Markets and Festivals around the world: AFM, NAPTE, FILMART, EFM, MARCHE DU FILM, DISCOP, MIPCOM, etc to name a few. We know that it’s the personal touch that, in the end, really matter.”

Looking to the future, Sellers and Suarez see Quantum being a “new model” distributor who  is open to new ways of getting films into the marketplace and on the cutting edge of the technology that will do just that.  ”We have to think out of the box and not be afraid to try new things.  There are new mechanisms for the delivery of content coming online steadily and as this happens, the industry evolves. There is a lag at the beginning which creates new opportunities for companies that are agile enough to see the opportunities and pounce on them.  We want to be that kind of Company.”
